Hi MagnoliaSouth! Thanks for visiting my blog. My DIY doggie sling was made from a tote bag that was waterproof on the inside, kinda vinyl-ized so when I cut it, i didn't need to sew the edges because they weren't gonna unravel. If you use a plain canvas tote you may want to hem it or just keep using a new one each time the old one wears out. Thrift store carry them for a buck or less. I hope this helps your dog and I hope you get to enjoy him/her for many more years! :) love, rosie
