Antibacterially and Organically Stupid

Did you know that organic eaters are meaner and more judgmental?  No, really. A study has proven that and are any of us surprised? Just to read up on the subject, here's a video about it and here's an article. Not only that, but those who eat organic food and also use antibacterial hand gel all the time are not... well... smart.

Let me just say that I am a nurse. For this reason I obviously do not completely object to the use of antibacterial hand gels. They do serve a purpose and they are helpful in certain situations. However these gels are being abused and users doing this to themselves are doing their bodies a great harm. Your body is designed to rid itself of certain germs and being exposed to small amounts of germs increases your body's resistance to illnesses. Patients who overuse antibacterial gels will eventually get sick more often than those who don't.

Here is the irony: most people who are germaphobic, also eat organic food and in reverse, organic food eaters also tend to become germaphobic. I don't mean to laugh, but truly this is a riot in and of itself. It's actually absurd.
You see, folks who stress organic food, and are germaphobics, need to be educated on what are and are not good health practices. To begin with, hand gels ruins your skin. You wouldn't stick your hand in a bucket of bleach, right? Would you then stick your hand in a bucket of rubbing alcohol? That's exactly what you're doing when you plop that hand gel on you.

Next, and this is even the more serious part of it, your skin absorbs chemicals. Think about it. You know that stuff you squirt on your dog's shoulders to prevent fleas? Have you ever gotten it on you? You'll notice a funny taste in your mouth. There are such things as pain patches, which we give to those with chronic pain such as cancer patients and many others. Most are narcotics and they send that drug right into your body via your skin. I'm sure you've seen the commercials for the nicotine patches to help people stop smoking; same thing.

So my question to these antibacterial germaphobic people is, why are you still using it? There is not one good reason why and especially if you like organic food because you're still ingesting chemicals! You're not ingesting them orally, but topically or through your skin.

I was reading a great article the other day and the subject was freezing food and in the comments was a surprising number of folks who don't want to handle meat with their hands, but they still eat it. Really? You'll put that into your body, but you won't touch it with your fingers? Really? lol!

Okay well in their defense, there are germs on meat and when you think about the idea that you're actually touching a dead body, it gets disgusting very quick, for some. However, there is such a thing as handwashing and if you're really that disgusted by it then maybe it's time to go vegan. General rule of thumb: If you can't touch it, then don't eat it.

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the subject for now.
