Chocolate Chip Cookies (printer friendly version)

  • 2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda 
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 (12 oz. pkg) OR 2 c. semi-sweet OR dark chocolate chips  (NOT milk chocolate)
Preheat oven to 375°F.

In a medium or small bowl, stir flour and baking soda together, then set aside.

In a large bowl beat butter, shortening, sugars and vanilla until light and fluffy looking. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Gradually add flour mixture, beating well after each addition, until all is added.

Fold in the chocolate chips, making sure that they're evenly distributed.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
